Wrapping up Youth Month with alcohol and substance abuse awareness campaigns

The Northern Cape Department of Transport, Safety and Liaison will be wrapping up its Youth Month Programmes with Sports Against Crime activities in Hartswater.

The aim of the sporting activities is to raise awareness amongst young people on the threats of alcohol and drug abuse and help them refrain from getting entrapped in criminal activities and find alternatives in recreational and sporting activities.

The Sports Against Crime activities will be one of the vehicles we will utilize on the day to continue engaging the youth on the risks of alcohol and substance abuse as they are vulnerable to becoming perpetrators or victims of crime.

This will also be a platform for the Department to build new partnerships and strengthen existing ones with the youth, as they have a crucial role as visionaries who can contribute towards the development of their communities and architects of their own future.

The Department will be creating a platform for the youth not only to utilize their talents in a month dedicated to them but also celebrate the gains young people have made throughout the years.  This will also create awareness of the strengths and roles the youth can play in their communities and for them to form meaningful partnerships.

The Department is determined to continue to mobilize the youth in the fight against crime – and this we can achieve through joint partnerships with communities, stakeholders, and law enforcement agencies.
