Drug trafficking arrest in Western Cape

Efforts to police our main entrance and exit routes to and from the Western Cape are still yielding excellent successes following the arrest of 41-year-old man yesterday after being found in possession of 12 boxes containing 1989 bunches of Khat with an estimated value of almost R200 000.00 that was destined for distribution in the Western.

Members attached to the Central Karoo-K-9 (Dog Unit) conducted random searches yesterday, Wednesday, 18 May 20146 at approximately 08:20 when they spotted the suspicious vehicle of the suspect near the weighbridge just outside Beaufort-West.

They pulled him over and with the search that ensued discovered the boxes filled with Khat in the vehicle.

They arrested the 41-year-old suspect on the spot and confiscated the find.

The accused who was identified as Dixon Nyajeka appeared in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court today after being charged with the illegal possession of drugs (Khat). He was remanded in custody and the matter was postponed to 26 May 2016 for an interpreter and possible bail application. He remains in custody.

Police provincial management from the Western Cape commended those members involved for their dedication and commitment to eradicate drug trafficking and the abuse thereof.
