Drug mule arrested at Cape Town International Airport with cocaine worth R1,2m

Western Cape: Those who thought that Cape Town is an easy entry for drugs were yet again taught a lesson today, Wednesday 4 May 2016.

For three consecutive days, significant successes were achieved at the Cape Town International Airport, with the latest drug mule arrested earlier today.

The 40 year old suspect from Johannesburg arrived on a flight from the Middle East and was arrested by SAPS members who were conducting an intelligence-driven operation. She was found in possession of 3 kg cocaine with an estimated street value of R1.2 million. Once charged, she will make a court appearance in Bellville on a charge of dealing in drugs.

On Monday night members of Customs arrested two suspects with 3.8kg cocaine valued at R1.5 million and yesterday again they arrested a suspect in possession of 2.9 kg cocaine valued at R1.1 million.

We have reason to believe that the suspects are linked to the same syndicate using the same method of poorly concealing the contraband in chocolate packaging.

We are pleased with the outcome of the latest interventions at the airport and deem the arrests as a major blow to the drug trade.
