735 Arrested during Operation Paseka in North West

North West – The police in North West province have nabbed 735 suspects for having committed various offences between Monday, 21 and Monday, 28 March 2016. The suspects were arrested during Operation Paseka which was conducted solely to bring stability during the Easter period.

Out of this number, 152 were apprehended for contact crimes, mainly assaults, 40 for property related crimes, 40 for drug related crimes, 32 for possession of suspected stolen goods and various other crimes. A total of 204 fines were issued for liquor related offences including drinking in public and illegal dealing in liquor.

The police managed to seize various drugs, 11 firearms, liquor, one vehicle, four cattle, copper cables, counterfeit cigarettes as well as dangerous weapons.

Most of the suspects have already appeared in various courts within the province while others are yet to appear today.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended the commitment of members during Easter holiday that culminated into these successes. She said that the police together with other role players will continue with the operations to ensure that communities are and feel safe.
