Arrest made and heroin confiscated at Golela Port Of Entry

On 31 January 2016 at 10:00, SAPS members performing border duties at the Golela Port Of Entry stopped a Mercedes Benz at the border. The vehicle was searched and a back pack with a secret compartment was discovered. On opening up the secret compartment a plastic bag containing 1.127 kg of heroin with a street value of R788 900-00 was found. It was then established that the suspect is from Malawi. The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for being in possession of drugs. He appeared at the Pongola Magistrates Court yesterday and was remanded in custody until 4 February 2016.

“The commitment of the KwaZulu-Natal police to reduce the proliferation of drugs and will continue to make the province safer for the community as well as the young ones who still have to grow up and make a better life for them. We are determined to disrupt all drug-supplying networks in our province,” said the Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
