Tip-off leads to arrest of alleged drug dealer at the taxi rank in KwaDukuza

The KZN MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, applauds police for arresting a 40-year-old alleged drug dealer at the taxi rank in KwaDukuza.

Yesterday (January 25, 2016), members of Ilembe Crime Intelligence and KwaDukuza Crime Prevention were doing their normal patrols in and around KwaDukuza when they followed up on information about drugs at the taxi rank in KwaDukuza.

They immediately proceeded to the rank where they identified the alleged drug dealer. He was approached and searched. The man was found in possession of 151 straws of whoonga and 62 capsules. He was arrested and charged with possession of drugs.

Today (Tuesday, January 26, 2016) MEC Mchunu commended the good work done by the police in partnership with the community.

“Partnership of this nature between the police and the community is what we are encouraging. People need not to take the law unto their hands, but to report crime and criminals to police.”

“It is unfortunate because it is only two weeks after the opening of schools. It is clear that young people are the target of this drug pusher. In this case we will make sure that justice is done so that others will not even think of doing such”, said Mchunu.
