60 Suspects arrested in Gauteng in possession of drugs or driving under the influence of alcohol

Police in Gauteng are continuing to deal with drug and alcohol related crimes as sixty (60) suspects will be appearing in various magistrates courts today for being in possession of drugs and driving under the influence of alcohol. They were arrested yesterday in various areas during routine crime prevention operations.

The operations were conducted by the police and other law enforcement agencies that includes Metro police and Gauteng traffic. Most of the arrests for driving under the influence of liqour were effected in Kempton Park and Cleveland policing areas. Twelve suspects were arrested in Kempton Park while 10 in Cleveland. As several persons and vehicles were subjected to searches, drugs were also confiscated and suspects arrested. A total of thirty-two (32) suspects were arrested for being in possession of drugs that includes dagga, nyaope, cocaine and madrax. Most of the arrests were effected in Evaton, Florida and Katlehong. Twenty-eight (28) suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police are concerned about trafficking and the use drugs exposed to the youth in our communities. Although there are continious operations to deal with this problem, civil societies and all community structures are also urged to come together to discuss ways of dealing with this problem which is in a process of destroying the future of the youth. Any information that may be forwarded to the police about drugs and their use will surely save a life. The abuse of alcohol and drugs are the main contributors of the deaths on our roads, murder, domectic violence as well as an increase in youth deliquency.
