The recent crime prevention operations conducted under the umbrella of operation “Fiela – Reclaim” by the South African Police Service and other role players has resulted in 53 arrests in the province.
The operations were held simultaneously in Vryburg, Brits and Potchefstroom on Friday, 18 December 2015. The arrested suspects include: two for contact crimes, 29 for drug-related crimes, 20 for liquor-related crimes and two for possession of dangerous weapons.
A total of 89 J534 fines were issued including 40 for road traffic-related offences. It was during this operation that 335 litres of liquor, including home brewed liquor, 1.4 kilograms of dagga, one dagga plant and one knife were seized.
The suspects are expected to appear in various courts in the province on Monday, 21 December 2015.
The police will continue to maintain a high presence and visibility to ensure stability so that communities feel safe during the festive season.
